The clients planned to stay in their new home for a long time, so wanted a garden which would maximise their enjoyment of the outside space all year round. The design had to accommodate a variety of uses—relaxation, entertaining, formal and family dining, as well as providing a playful space for the children. They envisioned two distinct areas within the garden, one for the adults, the other for the children, yet seamlessly flowing together.

The garden needed to feel immersive, with planting at varying heights that enveloped the space, making them feel as though they were the garden. Slatted fencing, raised beds and a pergola walkway were incorporated to define the areas while maintaining a cohesive, natural feel. The planting style was to evoke an aesthetic—structured yet warm and welcoming, with a mix of evergreens for year-round structure and key plants such as Hydrangeas, Roses, Acers, and Clematis to add beauty and seasonal interest.

A soothing colour palette of blues, purples, greens, and whites was chosen to create a calming atmosphere. As the clients were keen cooks, a herb garden was placed close to the house. Above all, the design was created with the intention that it should feel timeless, as though the garden had always been there, offering year-round enjoyment and a tranquil escape for the family.
